Foresight Group starts operations at Kölvallen Wind Farm

News

Foresight Group says that Kölvallen Wind Farm in Sweden has successfully commenced operations following three years of construction. Foresight first invested in the Kölvallen Wind Farm in 2022 from its flagship energy transition infrastructure fund FEIP.

The wind farm consists of 42 state-of-the-art Siemens Gamesa turbines, each rated at 6.6 MW, delivering a total installed capacity of 277.2 MW. With a hub height of 135 metres and a tip height of 220 metres, the project is one of the largest and most advanced onshore wind farms in Europe.

Construction of Kölvallen Wind Farm began in June 2022 and was completed in May 2025. The project utilised sustainable practices including the use of recycled reinforced steel, onsite gravel sourcing, and onsite concrete batching, which reduced CO₂ emissions by approximately 54%.

The project will generate an estimated 957 GWh annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 95,000 households. The wind farm is expected to become climate neutral within 3–4 months of operation, making a rapid contribution to Sweden’s decarbonisation and energy security goals.

The project also establishes a community fund, allocating a share of annual gross revenue to support local initiatives. In addition, six technicians from the region have been employed to operate and maintain the site, ensuring long-term benefits for the local economy.

Foresight have been working with Arise, a leading Swedish renewable energy project manager, since the inception of the project. Arise will continue to provide project management services for the wind farm, ensuring operational excellence and long-term performance.

Commenting on the milestone, Richard Thompson, Partner, Co-Lead, FEIP comments:

“We are delighted to see Kölvallen Wind Farm move into operation. This landmark project not only adds significant renewable capacity to Sweden’s grid, but also demonstrates our commitment to sustainable construction practices, community engagement, and supporting Europe’s transition to clean energy.”

Per-Erik Eriksson, CEO, Arise comments:

“With Kölvallen Wind Farm now in full operation, we are proud to showcase what persistence, collaboration, and innovation can achieve. This world-class renewable energy asset will, through its scale and efficiency, deliver real benefits for the environment and community, drive industrial growth, and strengthen the resilience of our energy system in uncertain times.”
